Our History in the Community

Shorty after the Civil War, Captain William Marshall, a Confederate Veteran donated the land for these religious buildings all built in a row, originally known as the "grove".

A congregation of New Testament Christians began in Trezevant in 1870-72, when W.E. Hall held a meeting in the School House.  The congregation's original membership included:  Mr. & Mrs. Pogue Williamson, Ms. Etta, Mr. & Mrs. Jim Brown, Mrs. Rebecca Brown, and young Doctor  Watson.

In about 1890-96, a brick building was erected to serve the church.  A baptistery and three classrooms were added in 1937.  By supplying members and financial aid, the  congregation in Atwood started its own congregation.  In 1983 additional classrooms were built, and the auditorium was refurbished.

Construction on the new building began on April 20th, 1996.  Wednesday evening bible Study was conducted in the new building on November 20th, 1996.  the following Sunday, November 24th, the congregation met for the Lord's Day worship in the new building.

The new building contains 8,800 square feet.  The auditorium will comfortably seat 275.  There are six classrooms for cradle-roll, pre-school, primary, Junior and Senior High, and Young Adults.  There are four rest rooms.  A large multi-purpose room and kitchen complement the building.  There is an office that serves as the Preacher's study.
